Flashcards for Irish Leaving Certificate Computer Science, split into the specification's three strands (Practices and principles, Core concepts, Computer science in practice) and then by topic in the order the learning outcomes present them. Code cards use Python, the language of the end-of-course examination.

Adding it gives you your own copy, with every subdeck below. Each card then comes back just before you would forget it, and every one you get right or wrong counts towards your mastery of its topic. You can delete or suspend the parts you are not studying once it is yours.

Some of its cards

  • What is a data type?
A classification that tells a program what kind of value a piece of data holds and what operations can be performed on it
  • What is a staged design and development process?
A process that moves through its stages in a fixed order, completing one stage before starting the next
  • What is a sorting algorithm?
An algorithm that rearranges the items in a list into a particular order, such as ascending or descending
  • What is software testing?
The process of running a program to find and correct errors, and to check that it produces the intended output
  • What is a list, in Python?
An ordered, changeable collection of values, written inside square brackets and separated by commas
  • What is algorithmic complexity?
A measure of how the resources an algorithm needs, such as time or memory, grow as the size of its input grows
  • What is an operating system?
System software that manages a computer's hardware and resources, and provides a way for other software and users to interact with the computer
  • What is a logic gate?
A basic electronic component that takes one or more Boolean inputs and produces a single Boolean output, based on a fixed rule
  • What is the CPU?
The central processing unit, the component of a computer that fetches, decodes and executes instructions
  • What is the binary number system?
A number system with only two digits, 0 and 1, used internally by digital computers
