Install cookie on your phone or computer
cookie is a web app, so the same thing runs in a browser tab and as an installed app on an iPhone, an Android phone, a Mac, a Windows PC or a Chromebook. There is nothing to get from an app store: your browser installs it from this site in a few seconds, and it updates itself.
Install cookie
Pick your phone or browser below for the steps.
Or use it in your browser
You don't have to install anything. cookie works the same in a browser tab on any phone or computer, so you can go to cookie.education, sign in and carry on. Installing it only gives it its own icon and window, which some people find quicker to get back to, and on an iPhone or iPad it is the one way to get notifications.
How to install it
iPhone and iPad
- Open cookie.education in Safari.
- Tap the Share button, the square with an arrow pointing up. On an iPhone it is at the bottom of the screen, on an iPad at the top.
- Scroll down and tap Add to Home Screen. If you see Open as Web App, leave it on, then tap Add.
- cookie is now on your Home Screen. Notifications on an iPhone or iPad only work from there, so this is the way to get them.
- Chrome and other browsers on an iPhone have Add to Home Screen too, under the Share button in the address bar.
Android
- Open cookie.education in Chrome.
- Tap the menu, the three dots at the top right, then Add to Home screen or Install app, then Install.
- In Samsung Internet, tap the menu at the bottom, then Add page to, then Home screen.
Chrome on Windows, Mac, Linux or a Chromebook
- Open cookie.education in Chrome.
- Click the install icon at the right-hand end of the address bar, a screen with an arrow pointing down.
- If it isn't there, open the menu (the three dots), then Cast, save and share, then Install page as app.
- cookie opens in its own window, and you can keep it in the Dock, the taskbar or the Start menu like any other app.
Microsoft Edge
- Open cookie.education in Edge.
- Open the menu (the three dots at the top right), then Apps, then Install this site as an app.
Safari on a Mac
- Open cookie.education in Safari. You need macOS Sonoma or later.
- Choose File in the menu bar, then Add to Dock, then Add.
- cookie is then in the Dock and in your Applications folder, and opens in its own window.
Firefox
- Recent versions of Firefox on Windows can add a site to the taskbar as an app, from the icon at the right-hand end of the address bar.
- Firefox on a Mac or Linux can't install sites as apps, so use Chrome, Edge or Safari for that, or carry on in a Firefox tab, which works just the same.
Without a connection
- If you lose your connection, cookie shows a page saying so rather than the browser's error, and goes back to what you were opening as soon as you're online again.
- Guides and topic pages you have opened stay readable on the device you read them on.
- With "Work offline on this device" on (it is on in the installed app), your due flashcards are kept on the device with their pictures and sound, so you can study them anywhere. Ratings made offline are sent when you're back online.
- The next three weeks of your revision plan are kept to read and tick, and a study timer that is running keeps going and saves its time when you are back.
- Your notes and drawings are kept too, to read, change and start new ones offline. When a note was also changed somewhere else, the two are put together, and if they changed the same line your version is kept as a separate note so nothing is lost.
