Domande frequenti

What is cookie?

cookie is a revision app that learns your level in each topic. It writes exam-style questions from your own notes and marks your answers the way an examiner would, and it has flashcards, past papers, notes, a revision plan and an assistant in the same place. It is there to help teachers and tutors rather than replace them: they can see the same record of what you know and set work from it, and we also run Cookie Tutoring, where lessons are with a person over video. cookie was built by a Cambridge Engineering student who uses it to revise.

Cookie Tutoring
How does cookie learn my level?

Every question you answer, flashcard you rate and past paper question you mark adds to a score for its topic, and a flashcard counts half as much as a marked answer. Those scores decide which topic a deck’s next question leans towards, put your weakest topics first when you study flashcards, give them more time in your revision plan and tell the assistant where you are. Spaced repetition then brings each topic back just before you would forget it, sooner if you struggled and later if you did not. You can see your scores on your Progress page, and so can a tutor you work with.

Does cookie mark answers like a real examiner?

It marks your answer against a mark scheme it writes alongside the question, with partial credit, a worked solution and feedback, and it can explain where the marks went. Each answer gets an exam-style score to compare with a real paper and a quality grade out of 5, which decides when the topic comes back. A question you have already been set can be typed in or photographed and is marked the same way; a photograph is only used to read the question in, and is deleted straight afterwards. The marking is done by AI and AI can be wrong, so you can challenge any mark and a tutor can review it.

How is cookie different from a flashcard app?

cookie has flashcards as well, written by the AI from your notes or by you, and you can bring your decks from Anki. What a flashcard app cannot do is ask you something new: cookie also writes multi-part exam-style questions from your own material and marks what you actually write, with partial credit, an exam-style score and a worked solution, and both count towards how well it thinks you know each topic.

Which exams does cookie cover?

Any board or exam your notes cover, because cookie writes its questions from what you give it, and there are ready-made decks, flashcards and notes for GCSE, A-Level, IB, AP, Scottish Highers and many other courses. The Subjects page puts everything for one exam in one place, and the Past papers page links free past papers and mark schemes on the exam boards' own websites, with every year's grade boundaries in our own tables. You can do a paper in cookie with a timer and mark it against the mark scheme. With an account you can have it marked with AI, and ask the assistant about a question as you go. The marks go into your topic scores.

Browse past papers and grade boundaries
What does the assistant do?

With an account you can ask it on any page, or press Command K (Ctrl K on Windows). It knows your level, your exams and your weakest topics, and it can make flashcards, notes or a question deck or change your plan once you confirm, with an Undo afterwards. Teacher mode, which is on for students unless you turn it off, gives hints before answers so you work it out yourself. It is optional, each answer uses credits, and it is AI, so it can be wrong.

Is cookie free?

Yes. The free plan has a daily and a monthly allowance of credits for what the AI does, such as writing and marking questions and answering in the chat, and Pro is there if you want to do more. Studying flashcards, marking a past paper yourself, writing your own notes and making a revision plan without the AI use no credits. A question costs more the more source material it is written from, so smaller, focused decks go further. The price you see first is an estimate, and each one is charged what it actually took, to the nearest credit.

Can I cancel Pro, and do I get money back?

Yes. You can cancel at any time with the Cancel Pro button on your account page, and you keep Pro until the end of the month or year you have paid for. For 14 days after you subscribe, and again after each yearly renewal and after the first payment that follows a free period, you can instead end Pro straight away and get back the part you have not used. Because Pro gives you its credits at the start, we go by whichever you have used more of, the days or the Pro credits, and the cancel window shows you both before you choose. Credits you bought separately are kept.
