Flashcards for WJEC GCSE Physics (3420), the Wales specification version 3 for first teaching from 2016 with the new Unit 3 from 2026, split into Unit 1 and Unit 2 and then by topic in the specification's order, with the specified practicals in their topics and a subdeck of scientific enquiry skills, terminology and mathematical skills. Higher-tier cards say so. Delete or suspend any subdeck your course leaves out.

Adding it gives you your own copy, with every subdeck below. Each card then comes back just before you would forget it, and every one you get right or wrong counts towards your mastery of its topic. You can delete or suspend the parts you are not studying once it is yours.

Some of its cards

  • What is an absorption spectrum?
The pattern of dark lines produced when light passes through a gas, at wavelengths the gas's atoms absorb
  • In a transverse wave, how do the vibrations relate to the direction of energy transfer?
The vibrations are at right angles (perpendicular) to the direction of energy transfer
  • What is total internal reflection?
When light travelling in a denser medium hits a boundary with a less dense medium at a large enough angle and is completely reflected back, rather than refracting out
  • What is the equation for work done?
    W=FdW = Fd
  • What is the difference between speed and velocity?
Velocity is speed in a given direction; speed alone has no direction
  • What symbol represents a cell in a circuit diagram?
A long and a short parallel line, long line positive
  • What is nuclear fission?
The splitting of a large, unstable nucleus into two smaller nuclei, releasing energy
  • Name three renewable energy resources used to generate electricity.
Any three: hydroelectric, wind, wave, tidal, waste, energy crops, solar, wood
  • Independent variable
The variable you choose to change in an investigation
  • What is the kilowatt a convenient unit of, in the domestic context?
    Power
