Common questions

How many UCAS points is an A* at A level?

56 points. An A is 48, a B 40 and a C 32, so A*AA is 152 points and BBB is 120.

Do all universities use UCAS points?

No. Many courses, especially at the more selective universities, ask for grades in named subjects instead (for example AAB including maths). Check each course’s entry requirements; points matter only where the course states them.

Does an AS level count if my child also takes the A level?

Usually not. UCAS says universities generally count only the higher level in the same subject, so an AS in a subject taken on to A level does not normally add points.

How many points is the EPQ worth?

An A* in the Extended Project is 28 points, half an A level A*, and some universities lower an offer by a grade for a good EPQ.
