Common questions

What percentage get a 9 in GCSE German?

10.9% of GCSE German results in England were 9 in 2026, according to Ofqual. The table on this page gives every year we hold.

How many students pass GCSE German?

In 2026, 80.2% of results in England were grade 4 or above, which the government calls a standard pass. The figures cover all candidates, including those resitting.

Why were results higher in 2020 and 2021?

There were no exams in those years. Grades were set by schools (centre assessment grades in 2020, teacher assessed grades in 2021), and more students got the top grades. Grading returned towards the pre-2020 standard in 2022 and 2023.

Where do these figures come from?

From Ofqual, the exams regulator for England, which publishes results by subject and grade. Figures are based on JCQ data before 2020 and on Ofqual data from 2020 onwards. They cover England only.
