Flashcards for Pearson Edexcel GCSE Statistics (1ST0), split into the statistical enquiry cycle and then the specification's three content areas and their lettered topics, in order. Higher-tier cards say so. A last subdeck covers what the Higher tier formulae sheet gives you, and what you still have to work out or memorise yourself. Delete or suspend any subdeck your course leaves out once the deck is yours.

Adding it gives you your own copy, with every subdeck below. Each card then comes back just before you would forget it, and every one you get right or wrong counts towards your mastery of its topic. You can delete or suspend the parts you are not studying once it is yours.

Some of its cards

  • An experiment carried out in a controlled setting away from natural conditions
    Laboratory experiment
  • The proportion of trials in which an event occurred, used as an estimate of its probability
    Relative frequency
  • Retail price index (RPI)
A measure of the average change in the prices of a fixed basket of goods and services over time
  • Independent events
Events where the outcome of one does not affect the probability of the other
  • Tally chart
A table used to count occurrences as data is collected, using tally marks
  • What three values do you need to calculate before using the formula for skew?
The mean, the median and the standard deviation
  • Mode
The most common value in a data set
  • An average recalculated repeatedly over a fixed number of consecutive points, used to smooth out a trend
    Moving average
  • What must you compare to judge whether experimental results show bias, without a formal significance test?
The observed outcomes and the expected frequencies from a theoretical model, such as a binomial model
  • Why are sample means less variable than individual values from the same population?
Because averaging over several values smooths out individual variation
