Flashcards for CCEA A-level Physics (GCE Physics 2016), split into the four examined units, AS 1, AS 2, A2 1 and A2 2, then by the specification's numbered topics in order, with a fifth subdeck for practical skills such as apparatus, uncertainties and graph analysis. Experiment methods sit in the topic they belong to. Cards say when an equation is given on the formulae sheet. Delete or suspend any subdeck you do not need.

Adding it gives you your own copy, with every subdeck below. Each card then comes back just before you would forget it, and every one you get right or wrong counts towards your mastery of its topic. You can delete or suspend the parts you are not studying once it is yours.

Some of its cards

  • What is refraction?
The change in direction of a wave as it crosses a boundary between media, caused by a change in its speed
  • What force acts on a charge in a uniform electric field?
F=qEF = qE, in the direction of the field for a positive charge
  • What is a field of force?
A region in which a body experiences a force because of some property it has, such as mass or charge
  • What is a standing wave?
A wave pattern formed by the superposition of two waves of the same frequency travelling in opposite directions, with fixed nodes and antinodes
  • How are X-rays produced in an X-ray tube?
Electrons accelerated by a high p.d. hit a metal target, and knock out inner electrons; outer electrons falling into the gap emit X-ray photons
  • What is an alpha particle?
A helium nucleus, two protons and two neutrons
  • What is an angular displacement of one radian?
The angle at the centre of a circle subtended by an arc equal in length to the radius
  • What is a fundamental particle?
A particle with no internal structure, which is not made of anything smaller
  • Simple harmonic motion is an oscillation in which the acceleration is [...].
Simple harmonic motion is an oscillation in which the acceleration is proportional to the displacement from the equilibrium position and directed towards it.
  • What is a synchrotron?
A circular particle accelerator in which charged particles are accelerated by electric fields and kept in a fixed circular path by magnetic fields
