Flashcards for SQA Advanced Higher Physics, split into the course's four areas, from rotational motion and astrophysics to units, prefixes and uncertainties, and then by key area in the specification's order (version 3.1, session 2026 to 27). Each equation card says whether it is given on the relationships sheet. Data sheet constants and material properties are provided in the exam, so worked examples use them rather than asking you to recall them.

Adding it gives you your own copy, with every subdeck below. Each card then comes back just before you would forget it, and every one you get right or wrong counts towards your mastery of its topic. You can delete or suspend the parts you are not studying once it is yours.

Some of its cards

  • In what kind of quantities is the electronvolt (eV) commonly used as a unit?
Small energies, such as those of photons, electrons or other particles
  • What unification does the theory of electromagnetic radiation represent?
The unification of electricity and magnetism
  • About how many metres is one astronomical unit (AU)?
    1.5×10111.5 \times 10^{11} m
  • How does the current in an RC circuit vary with time while the capacitor is charging?
It starts at a maximum value and decays exponentially towards zero
  • What quantity is the rate of change of displacement with time?
    Velocity
  • What is a plane-polarised wave?
A transverse wave in which the vibrations (oscillations) occur in only one plane
  • How is simple harmonic motion (SHM) defined?
Motion in which the restoring force, and so the acceleration, is proportional to the displacement from the rest position, and acts in the opposite direction to it
  • What feature of black-body radiation curves cannot be explained by classical physics?
Their shape, historically called the ultraviolet catastrophe
  • What is a cosmic ray?
A high-energy charged particle, usually a proton or other atomic nucleus, travelling through space
  • What must act on an object to change its angular (rotational) motion?
    An unbalanced torque
