Flashcards for OCR A-Level Physics A (H556), split into the six teaching modules and then into the specification's numbered topics. Cards note whether an equation is in the Data, Formulae and Relationships booklet or has to be recalled. Delete or suspend any subdeck your course leaves out.

Adding it gives you your own copy, with every subdeck below. Each card then comes back just before you would forget it, and every one you get right or wrong counts towards your mastery of its topic. You can delete or suspend the parts you are not studying once it is yours.

Some of its cards

  • What are the main components of an X-ray tube?
A heated cathode (filament), an anode, a target metal and a high voltage supply
  • What did the alpha-particle scattering experiment (Geiger-Marsden experiment) provide evidence for?
A small, dense, positively charged nucleus at the centre of the atom
  • What is potential difference (p.d.)?
The energy transferred per unit charge between two points in a circuit
  • What is ultrasound?
A longitudinal wave with a frequency greater than 20 kHz, above the range of human hearing
  • What causes a magnetic field?
Moving charges (electric currents) or permanent magnets
  • What equation links the resultant force on an object to its mass and acceleration?
    F=maF = ma
  • What is a medical tracer?
A radioactive substance introduced into the body, whose distribution can be tracked by detecting the radiation it emits
  • What is meant by the work done by a force?
The energy transferred by the force acting over a distance
  • What does Kirchhoff's second law state?
The sum of the e.m.f.s around any closed loop in a circuit equals the sum of the potential differences around that loop
  • What is tensile deformation?
A stretching deformation, which increases an object's length
